Quantum Stealth; The Invisible Military Becomes A Reality

By Guy Cramer, President/CEO of Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp.

This is mock-up of our "Quantum Stealth" (Light Bending) material with my assistant behind it. No cameras and no projectors are used. These photos are to show the Media the concept, for security issues we can not show the actual technology. With the real material - you would only see about 5% of the shadow on her and the ground as we've determined a 95% reduction of shadow in testing.

(October 19, 2012, Vancouver, B.C.) Once thought to be only a Science Fiction/Fantasy technology, Guy Cramer, President/CEO of Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp., discusses the implications of militaries which can now become invisible with his light bending technology called "Quantum Stealth".

Hyperstealth is a successful Canadian camouflage design company with over two million military issued uniforms and over 3000 vehicles and fighter jets using their patterns around the world.

Quantum Stealth is a material that renders the target completely invisible by bending light waves around the target. The material removes not only your visual, infrared (night vision) and thermal signatures but also the target’s shadow.

Two separate command groups within the U.S. Military and two separate Canadian Military groups as well as Federal Emergency Response Team (Counter Terrorism) have seen the actual material so they could verify that I was not just manipulating video or photo results; These groups now know that it works and does so without cameras, batteries, lights or mirrors...It is lightweight and quite inexpensive. Both the U.S. and Canadian military have confirmed that it also works against military IR scopes and Thermal Optics.

For reasons of security, I can’t discuss details about how it accomplishes the bending of light but I can explain how it might be used.

Scenario 1: A pilot ejects over open terrain in enemy territory, his parachute that deploys is made of the Quantum Stealth material to hide his fall. The enemy knows his aircraft crashed in a specific location, he has less than one hour to find cover, of which there is none. He takes the Quantum Stealth material from the parachute and throws it over top of him, the pilot is now undetectable to all visual sensors and human eyes unless they happen to trip over him. Now he radios out his coordinates and waits for rescue.

Scenario 2: Cameras and visual sensors are on the enemy beach, the Special Forces team decked out in Quantum Stealth swims up to the beach in the middle of the day as they no longer have to wait till night to hide their approach. The team infiltrates the defenses without detection, completes their mission and goes out the same way they came in. The enemy reviews the sensors and cameras; no anomalies were detected on any sensor, no shadows on the cameras, no jamming of the sensors, no thermal signatures, the only evidence discovered by the enemy are boot tracks leading up the beach right past of their defenses and another set of boot tracks going back into the water.

Scenario 3: The next generation of combat aircraft is undergoing trials, in the past these secret aircraft had to be moved into hangers whenever a spy satellite passed overhead. Now with Quantum Stealth, the aircraft is undetectable from spy satellites, aerial drones or surveillance balloons eyes at any time of the day or night.

Scenario 4: One of the most vulnerable times for a submarine is when it comes to periscope depth to look around to verify the enemy, ships or aircraft are not loitering in the area, before the submarine surfaces or fires on the enemy. The periscope can only be hidden with painted camouflage to a certain degree. With Quantum Stealth; the entire submarine can stay hidden near the surface as well as the periscope above the surface which also cannot be seen.

Scenario 5: One of the most dangerous missions for soldiers is Close Quarters Combat inside structures, Special Forces and Counter Terrorism teams train over and over on these possible confrontations. Now the enemy will only know someone is there when they have to open or breach a door or hear movement, providing the specialized team more time to determine targets from hostages and allowing them time to wait to react when it’s most favorable to do so.

Scenario 6: A group of Canadian Battle Tanks in Quantum Stealth engage an enemy group of tanks, the only indication to the enemy of the Canadian Tanks location is the direction of the noise of the tanks engines and the sound of their guns firing. As the enemy looks through their targeting scopes to fire back, there is no indication on any sensor to where the Canadian tanks are located, nor can the enemy see the other Canadian tanks which are moving to flank them from the side and behind. As news spreads of an invisible Canadian army which can move without detection, the psychological effect on the enemy is devastating, they never know when or even if this invisible army has them targeted or surrounded. How can you hit a target you cannot see, how do you defend from the invisible?

Scenario 7: A sniper is required to take out a high profile target at a specific location, however, there is no cover for miles. Prior to Quantum Stealth the sniper used to look for cover and concealment to hide their location, now they are able to remain undetected sneaking into the location, in open terrain, reloading without their movement being detected, changing locations without their motion being noticed and depart the location at any time day or night.

Why disclose this technology to the public? I have not disclosed how it's done, I have only said that I have done it and described potential applications for it. Many people believe that movies and T.V. shows are close to reality in how the U.S. government or U.S. military reacts to new technology, acquiring anything that provides an advantage. My experience is that this is not the case, at least not for a foreign company, it is much more boring and time consuming than you may think as there are approvals and agreements required between each participating country and few people who have the authority to sign off on these multi-country agreements. Many times you will meet with someone or some group in the military only to find they can't help, to find the right person who has the ability to take it to the next level can take months. Sometimes you need publicize your ability to get the attention of the right person. Most in the military were skeptical that the real photos and videos I was showing them were not manipulated (note the photos on this page do not show the real technology - they are mockups to show the media the concept).

I had an open channel in regards to new technology to the U.S. from 2004-2008 when I worked with the Chief of Staff for Senator John Warner (Chairman of the Armed Services Committee until 2007), but Warner retired in late 2008 and his people dispersed into other jobs, I developed Quantum Stealth after this time.

Smartcamo - Color changing material:
Color shifting from Desert (Top) to Transitional (Middle) to Woodland (Bottom)

In October of 2010 I released a video of “Smartcamo” at a camouflage symposium in Brussels which showed a camouflage uniform changing colors from Woodland to Transitional and then into Desert coloration. I assumed that the U.S. military was already there on this technology and I was playing catch-up. I was notified immediately after my talk by someone from the U.S. Military that I could not show that video again as I had just shown them that I had solved a problem they were still working on. Even professors in Textiles at the symposium were astonished when they saw the video.

Smart (Interactive/Intelligent textiles) are textiles embedded with some form of technology which can adjust to their surroundings or user. Most research in this area is being done with Nanotechnology or Metamaterials. Our Smartcamo approach showed how I could combine new technologies with preexisting for a cost effective - yet quick applicable solution to the problem. Slight modifications to the system will allow a mobile or moving camouflage for uniforms to mask movement. There are limitations to Smartcamo such as cost, weight of power source and limited activation time. What I was not saying at the time was that I had already developed something better without these limitations; Quantum Stealth.

I was speaking at a breakout session at ADS Inc. Warrior West in San Diego during May of 2011 on “The New Science of Stealth”. Anyone was allowed to attend and being a military show in San Diego, there were a large number of U.S. Navy SEALs in the audience, but what I didn’t know is that an editor from "Military Times" had traveled to the show just to hear this presentation, and when she heard about light bending material at the end of the talk she wanted more information. After the talk she came to me for an interview on the subject.

As with all media, I told her that I could describe where it could be used but not how I accomplished the light bending. She wanted images and I told her that I could not provide those images for public dissemination.

This is when the media became very interested in this technology and helped garner the interest of the U.S. Military.

Numerous stories have been written on the technology without any disclosure of how it’s done, I released mock-up photos that the media wanted to show the public the concept without providing actual photos of the technology and many people remain skeptical, (as would I).

After enough press had been written on the subject, the U.S. Military Command finally asked to see the real material to verify that it worked. Those meetings took place with very limited “Need to Know” access and the technology is now moving forward.

Isn’t there a risk that someone else may figure this out or copy what you’ve done? Yes, but I’ve already developed a countermeasure for Quantum Stealth so we would be able to detect anyone else with something identical or similar to Quantum Stealth.

Do I care that people remain skeptical? Nope, the people that need to know that it works have seen it and verified it and their opinions are the only ones that matter.

Will Quantum Stealth be available for the general public or commercial market? Not in the near future unless the Military decided to release the technology and I don't anticipate that will happen anytime soon.

Is there anything planned for the commercial market? I am working on a number of non-powered color changing camouflage materials for the commercial market which utilize different technologies than either Quantum Stealth or Smartcamo. Colors change with climate, seasons cause environmental colors to change and even the 24 hour day can cause a large color discrepancy between camouflage and the background as day becomes night. People want camouflage which can change with these variables.

Have you made camouflage obsolete? Not necessarily, standard camouflage should continue to have its place, however, on the front lines it might become your second choice behind Quantum Stealth if you’re Canadian, American or British and your group is authorized to use it.

Update: December 13, 2012

Colin Worth, CEO of Cornerstone Protection Agency, (recently retired, 26 year RCMP [Royal Canadian Mounted Police] Officer), accompanied Cramer to Ottawa to demonstrate Quantum Stealth to the Canadian military and the RCMP. Colin has gone on record to say that it does work as Cramer claims.

Colin has signed an NDA agreement and unable to provide specifics but he states; "Things really disappear with this Quantum Stealth material, it does work".

March 26, 2013 CTV News Channel: Canadian company creates 'quantum stealth' invisibility cloak Colin Worth (former RCMP [Royal Canadian Mounted Police] Officer), CEO of Cornerstone Protection Agency, went with Cramer to demonstrate the material for the Canadian Armed Forces, explains what 'quantum stealth' fabric is. The fabric is used in a new invisibility cloak.

Update: December 14, 2012

With close to 5,000 worldwide news stories on our Invisibility Cloak over the last 4 days, we want to show one of the best stories so far. The reporter contacted the Canadian Military for confirmation that we had met them (CANSOFCOM) and demonstrated the technology. He also contacted Colin Worth, CEO of Cornerstone Protection Agency (Mr. Worth is a recently retired 26 year RCMP Officer) who accompanied Guy Cramer, President/CEO of Hyperstealth to the Canadian Military and RCMP meetings and William (Bill) Jarvis, Principle of the 132 Group (Mr. Jarvis is a recently retired 19 year Navy SEAL) who accompanied Guy to the U.S. military command meetings. Both Mr. Worth and Mr. Jarvis confirm the meetings and claims about the technology. Maple Ridge News: Is there an invisible cloak?

Update: December 15, 2012

After a U.S. Military Command meeting this summer we were contacted by a person from the U.S. Government who was at the meeting to figure out how they could move forward with our Quantum Stealth technology regarding the big issue in that it was from a foreign country. It was decided that they would have a great deal of difficulty moving forward with a Canadian company and suggested that we work with a U.S. company as the Prime Contractor. We have worked with ADS Inc. of Virginia Beach on numerous programs such as the Afghanistan National Army, New Zealand and the Ghostex camouflage programs, and they were aware of some background on Quantum Stealth development from 2010, we approached ADS Inc. with this proposal and they accepted. ADS Inc. is the Prime Contractor in the U.S. and has submitted requested white papers to the U.S. Military regarding the technology. Three people at ADS Inc. with clearance have been present at one military demonstration of this technology.

Update: December 18, 2012

I, Guy Cramer, have conducted about 20 interviews on this subject, however, there are now over 5,000 worldwide news stories that have come out in the past 8 days. With the internet, one news group just plagiarizes a previous story and fact checking is out the window. Some of you may remember the game as a child where you whisper a phrase in the ear of the first person and they whisper the same phase to the next person...10 people later you ask the last person to say the phase that they just were whispered and the phase is often completely different.

Some inaccuracies have come up which need clarification - if you have read this whole page you know the photos are mock-ups to show the concept, we have never told the media that these are photos of the real technology and in fact we've asked them to mark the photos as mock-ups or explain it on T.V.- but doing so doesn't sell the story, so most of the articles leave this key point out. I started the process of correcting the reporters with the first reports I could find that did not mention this correctly such as http://www.businessinsider.com/cnn-new-camoflague-technology-makes-troops-invisible-2012-12 (these two reporters never did correct it after I asked them to) but the story went viral. There is no way for me to get 5,000 news sources to mark the images as mockups that didn’t even bother to interview me in the first place. I have not been dishonest about this, the reporters have.

I've never been to the Pentagon and the Pentagon is not backing our Light Bending technology at this time, this inaccuracy came about from the Daily Mail article where they combined the information on this page with the CNN interview where the reported is a Pentagon correspondent - but the Daily Mail never interviewed me, their online story is one key article that caused the story to go viral. I have only claimed that two separate U.S. Military command groups have seen demonstrations of the material, this doesn't mean the Pentagon was one of them. The Canadian Government only provided authorization 2 weeks ago to be able to move forward with the U.S. Military regarding this technology.

Canadian Foreign Affairs is involved in determining the potential restrictions and clearance in moving forward with the British Military and will not make a decision until at least the Spring of 2013. At their request, I did a presentation of the technology at British Military Headquarters in Bristol in 2011 as well as the SBS (Special Boat Service) in Poole accompanied by two former U.S. Navy SEALs, one being Bill Jarvis mentioned in an earlier update.

Some critics are claiming that our technology (if it works) must only work in one direction at one angle. I can tell you that we have demonstrated that it can work in 360 degrees meaning you will see what is on the other side of the target and some one at a different angle will see what is immediately behind the target from their vantage point.

This story is not new, the "Atlantic" magazine article published in July 2011 discussed the technology from a video I showed him and the same reporter was shown our actual Smartcamo (color changing material) and confirmed that technology really works. It is only recently that the media has become focused on light bending technology due to the CNN interview which was not our intended story with them but when a three hour interview with CNN is cut into 2 minutes, the focus of their story was on this and not on the ADS Inc./Guy Cramer US4CES Family of camouflage finalist with the U.S. Army camouflage improvement program, which is the initial story they were there for.

Sept. 9, 2013: Successful testing yesterday with our Quantum Stealth (light bending material) covering a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).

The UAV was able to taking off, fly a course at high speed, return back and land, repeating these tasks multiple times without any apparent change in the flight characteristics of the UAV.

Currently only special authorized groups in the Canadian and U.S. militaries have access to the material and Quantum Stealth has been classified by both countries

February 11, 2014 Hyperstealth's Light Bending "Quantum Stealth" Technology finds a whole new area of applications by bending laser beams

February 28, 2014 U.S. Military budgets for FY2015 to Research and Develop Quantum Stealth (Light Bending Material). Recent approval by Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) has allowed HyperStealth, a Canadian corporation, to begin working with the U.S. Military under an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with a specific initial focus on (but not limited to) Tier-1 Special Forces applications. The DRDC will be provided access to all information obtained from the U.S. program.

March 14, 2014 Hyperstealth contingency plan in place for Quantum Stealth (Light Bending Material)

Hyperstealth is putting a contingency plan in place for Quantum Stealth (Light Bending Material) to allow the company take a version of it to the worldwide commercial market if the U.S. Military is unable to move forward with it – for whatever reason. Currently the U.S. Military has budgeted to Research and Develop Quantum Stealth for FY2015 (Fiscal Year 2015).

Hyperstealth would not even consider this commercial option one year ago, but they are a business and after the ongoing hold with the U.S. Army Phase IV Camouflage improvement Effort and the new law passed by both the congress and senate which removes any new camouflage pattern as an option for any branch of the military – they must use what is currently used in the U.S. Military. Hyperstealth believes that Quantum Stealth may also fall under these new rules and/or new restrictions which may be put in place to protect the status quo and is taking necessary steps to ensure that this advanced technology becomes a viable part of their business.

Guy Cramer, President/CEO of Hyperstealth and developer of Quantum Stealth does not want to take the commercial path with this technology, “This will forever change the battlefield and if the day comes when the average Hunter has access to something that surpasses our top Special Forces, then the Art of War will become a very difficult and dangerous if our own military comes up against it. This material cannot be seen visually (nor the target it is hiding) and current optical technology is not going to help you find them either in the day or night – now that’s a scary world.”

Hyperstealth will pull a few of the technologies out of the military version of Quantum Stealth to allow it to function for the commercial market without providing the public with a number of the key elements, however, this dumbed down version would still offer improved concealment in the visual spectrum over anything now available. Once this Genie in the Bottle is released, you cannot put it back.

As a Canadian company Hyperstealth falls under the laws and rules of the Canadian Government, which does not place the same restrictions on Hyperstealth with Quantum Stealth regarding foreign military access; with British, Australia and New Zealand militaries, all requesting access under current cooperative defense agreements. The U.S. Military, has asked Hyperstealth not to pursue any foreign sales at this time (with only Canadian Government access) and while Hyperstealth has agreed to this restriction for the time being to allow the U.S. Military to figure out the best course forward, Hyperstealth is currently not bound by the U.S. request.

Last year Hyperstealth lost a large military contract for one of their camouflage patterns, which had been field trialed and approved with a very large country (the contract would have been larger than the whole Canadian Military) as this country’s leadership hinged the deal with access to Quantum Stealth yet they were unable to get U.S. Government permission to access Quantum Stealth for their military.

The challenge with a technology like this from a military perspective is not just to develop it to the full potential but also keeping it out of the hands of others. With a large multibillion dollar outdoor market waiting in the wings for Quantum Stealth, the logical conclusion for the business side is to run with it commercially.

While Cramer knows that there is a fork in the road fast approaching; bureaucracy, politics and government budget issues may just determine which will be the path of least resistance.

April 11, 2014 Hyperstealth INVISIB will be the first commercial variant of Quantum Stealth

With authorization from the U.S. Military last week, Hyperstealth INVISIB will be the first commercial variant of Quantum Stealth (Light Bending Material). A confidential version with a higher capability will be available for Law Enforcement/Military Regular Forces and a highly advanced classified version will be available for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Special Forces Teams in Canada and the U.S. only.

Hyperstealth is now in the process of establishing the Intellectual Property (IP) for INVISIB, and only after the IP is secured will the product be demonstrated to the public.

Hyperstealth was not allowed to pursue the IP prior to this recent authorization as Canada does not allow patents to be taken out on classified technology and while the U.S. does allow patents on classified technology, it would have to be stamped secret and would not allow Hyperstealth to secure worldwide protection.

June 9, 2014 Continuum T.V. series features Hyperstealth and their light bending material - Extended video (5 minutes) of the parkour scene, where the light bending material is stolen from Hyperstealth.
